ECD Mode
When your Institution Type in Settings is set to ECD Center, the sidebar swaps the class-based pages (My Classes, Gradebook, Lesson Plans, Assessments, Flashcards, AI Assistant, Analytics) for four ECD-specific pages: ECD Overview, Children, Milestones, and Daily Reports. Attendance, Messages, Schedule, and Settings stay the same as the rest of the app.
Class and Child Picker
ECD Overview, Milestones, and Daily Reports share the same Class and Child dropdowns in the page header. Picking a class loads the children enrolled in it; picking a child loads that child's data below. The pickers default to your first class and its first child. The Children page uses a slightly different layout — see below.
ECD Overview
The ECD Overview page (also what you land on at the Dashboard when in ECD Center mode) is a snapshot of the selected child:
- Quick links to Children, Milestones, and Daily Reports
- A development summary card — the child's age, their overall percentage of age-appropriate milestones achieved, and a progress bar per developmental domain (Physical · Gross Motor, Physical · Fine Motor, Cognitive, Language · Receptive, Language · Expressive, Social-Emotional, Adaptive / Self-Help — only domains with milestones for this child's age are shown)
- Areas of strength and Areas for growth — badges naming the domains the child is doing well in or needs support with
- Suggested activities — targeted at the child's areas for growth, each with a duration and whether it's an outdoor activity
If no class or child is selected yet, or your classes fail to load, the page shows a prompt or an error message instead of the summary.
Children
The Children page has a Class dropdown in the header and lists every child enrolled in that class down the left side — there's no separate child dropdown here. Click a child's name in the list to load their development summary on the right — the same domain-progress breakdown as the Overview page, plus a Recent milestones list showing each milestone's name and status.
Milestones
The Milestones page shows every milestone appropriate for the selected child's current age, grouped into cards by developmental domain. Each milestone row shows:
- The milestone's name and description
- The expected age range in months
- A status badge — Not started, Emerging, Developing, Achieved, or Exceeded
- A dropdown to change that status
Changing the status dropdown saves immediately — there's no separate save button. A confirmation appears once it's saved, and the badge updates. If nothing loads, a message explains whether your classes failed to load or no age-appropriate milestones were found for the child.
Daily Reports
The Daily Reports page lists the selected child's reports from the last 30 days, newest first. Each row shows the date, an overall mood badge (when set), and whether it's been Viewed by a parent or is Not viewed. Click a row to expand it and see its logged items and, once generated, its AI summary.
Creating a Report
- Click "New report"
- Set the Date (defaults to today)
- Optionally pick an Overall mood — Happy, Calm, Tired, Fussy, Sad, or Energetic
- Click "Create report"
::: note Creating a report only sets its date and overall mood. There's currently no way to log individual items — meals, naps, diaper changes, activities, incidents, or medication — from the Teachers App; an expanded report will only show items if another system added them. :::
Report Actions
Once a report exists, expand it to reach two actions:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Generate summary | Produces an AI-written summary of the report, shown at the top of the expanded view |
| Mark viewed | Marks the report as viewed by the parent — disabled once it's already marked |
Tips
- Pick the class first — the child dropdown is empty until a class with children is selected
- Check milestones regularly — updating status as you observe it keeps the Overview's progress bars current
- Use daily reports consistently — a report a parent can see builds trust even before individual items can be logged from here
